The new interchange is designed to be eco-friendly with a sloping roof that collects and recycles rainwater, and a wall fitted with solar panels to contribute towards the buildings energy needs. The environmentally friendly station has won a number of awards for its design and building techniques.
Currently served by Merseyrail Hunts Cross-Southport, Northern Rail Liverpool-Manchester and London Midland Liverpool-Crewe services. From December 2008 East Midland Liverpool-Norwich trains will also call.
In recent years LIVERPOOL JOHN LENNON AIRPORT has been one of Europe's fastest growing airports, having increased its annual passenger numbers from 875,000 in 1998 to 5.52 million in 2007.
The airport has one of the highest percentage of Ryanair & easyJet flights in the world and by far the largest percentage in the UK. Current routes are:
