The TRENT & MERSEY CANAL is close by.  The canal opened in 1777 and became a vital route for the journey to the sea.  Longport wharf - with its warehouse and canal office still exists.

WESTPORT LAKE is the largest body of water in the Stoke area. The site also has a play area, grass and a woodland conservation area. Westport Lake is well known for its water birds and is popular with walkers and anglers.  The conservation area at the back of the site is home to many animals including shovellers, kingfishers and dragonflies.

WOLSTANTON GOLF CLUB celebrated its centenary in 2004 and is a pretty, compact course with many trees.  A surprising number of birds and other species of wild life, including foxes & squirrels have been seen on the golf course.  The foxes have become quite tame, fox cubs have been seen chasing and chewing golf balls, probably mistaking them for eggs!
