The city centre features numerous theatres, music venues, art galleries and museums, such as URBIS and the SCIENCE & INDUSTRY MUSEUM. Manchester is a shopper’s paradise, either at the refurbished ARNDALE CENTRE, or in the more exclusive King Street and St Anne’s Square. CHINATOWN has a spectacular Imperial Arch and numerous high quality restaurants. Manchester is justly famed for its legendary nightlife, with plenty of traditional pubs, modern bars, nightclubs, several cinemas and a thriving live music scene. Oxford Road Station was built in 1960 with curves bringing to mind the Sydney Opera House and is a grade II listed building. Close by are: The GREENROOM is situated in two converted railway arches beneath the station. Facilities include a fully resourced black-box style theatre, a studio style rehearsal room, exhibition facilities, and a café/bar. The PALACE THEATRE is Manchester's flagship theatre and shows are of the same calibre as in London's West End, often being part of the same tour. From Opera to musicals and even pantomime, the venue stages them all and has a huge capacity over three floors of seating. Home to the Halle, the BRIDGEWATER HALL is a beautiful modern concert hall, with great acoustics for classical music. Alongside a huge programme of classical music, featuring international orchestras, they also have light entertainment and rock and pop acts. |
